On Objectivity

An Experiment on a Bird in the Air Pump, by Joseph Wright of Derby

We worship objects. Why?

Do we fear what is true of which lies within us?

Must man mistrust the natural truth resting within his soul?

Our civilization throws herself in the arms of science, and mistakes the attachments of objectivity for a protective mantle.

Fear crawls into art: we must always create copies; what we make must always be a duplicate of something else already existing. "Different" means "monstrous".

But, is man not the most "different" of all animals?

Is not the base of all culture the genuine "difference" of man?

Heavens! Is perhaps man, himself, a "monster" too?
